Hospital Strategy Services
Case Study:
Joint Strategic / Facility Plan
Challenge
Carondelet Health Network a three-hospital system in Tucson, was facing tight deadlines for capital submissions to their parent corporation, Ascension Health. The challenge was to quickly complete a strategic plan, translate that to facility needs, and use those to define the capital needs in a short period of time.
Solution
Working with the facility planning staff of META Associates, an integrated strategic and facility planning process was developed and implemented. The aggressive planning process resulted in shared data analysis, intensive management and physician involvement, and board oversight. In total, the effort took thirty (30) weeks, versus 12-14 months if the strategic and facility planning processes had been completed sequentially.
Result
Working with the executive leaders strategic priorities were identified and facility solutions defined. Capital budgets were developed that were supported by market analysis, and Carondelet received 90% of the dollars they had asked for from Ascension Health. That investment will allow them to better serve the growing needs of the Tucson community. Management can also be confident that the underlying assumptions are sound, and that ultimately the investments will be sound as well.
