Physician Group Strategic Plan
Challenge
Cardiology Associates of Kentucky is a successful group that is suffering from growing pains. Physicians were not focused in a common direction, and goals and expectations were not clearly defined. The result was that the group dealt with internal strife, was unfocused on key success drivers, and had no roadmap for the future.
Solution
The solution was to develop a strategic plan. That process focused the doctors on data concerning the marketplace, created a common vision and mission, defined a set of strategies that were generally agreeable to all, and ultimately resulted in an action plan and ownership for elements of the strategic plan among the physicians.
Result
The results were greater mutual understanding of the challenges the group faced, greater focus on the factors that were key to the group's long-term success. In particular, an increased focus on referring physicians came out of the strategic plan, as did streamlined and improved governance.
